Dead Rising Revamped for Enhanced Gameplay

Capcom resurrects the original Dead Rising with a deluxe remaster! Nearly a decade after the last Dead Rising game (2016's Dead Rising 4), which received mixed reviews, the iconic zombie-slaying franchise returns. While Dead Rising 4's reception may have contributed to the series' hiatus, Capcom's focus shifted to the wildly successful Resident Evil remakes.

The original Dead Rising, initially an Xbox 360 exclusive (2006), received an enhanced port in 2016. Now, eight years later, a current-gen remaster, "Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster," is announced. A brief 40-second YouTube trailer showcasing Frank West's dramatic helicopter entrance hints at a release later this year, though platforms remain unconfirmed.

Capcom Announces Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

While a 2016 enhancement already existed, this remaster promises improved visuals and performance. This naturally raises questions about potential remasters of the sequels. However, given Capcom's approach—a remaster rather than a full-scale remake—hopes for Resident Evil-style overhauls seem diminished. The proven success of the Resident Evil remakes likely makes them a priority, and tackling two zombie franchises simultaneously might be too resource-intensive. Still, the possibility of a Dead Rising 5 remains a tantalizing prospect.

2024 has already seen a wave of successful remasters and remakes (Persona 3 Reload, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, etc.). Should Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster launch this year, it will join other Xbox 360-era titles receiving the remaster treatment, suggesting a trend of revisiting beloved classics.
