Good news for fans of the Atelier series! Koei Tecmo Europe announced on November 26th, 2024, via Twitter (X), that the upcoming Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & The White Guardian will not include a gacha system, unlike its mobile predecessor. This marks a significant departure for the franchise.

A Gacha-Free Experience

This spinoff promises a refreshing change of pace. The absence of a gacha system means players won't face the common paywall of many similar games, eliminating the need to grind or spend money to progress. Character unlocks and powerful item acquisition will not be tied to in-app purchases.

Furthermore, the game boasts offline playability, eliminating the need to interact with the mobile version. The official website hints at a new narrative and protagonists within the established Lantarna world.

Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian is slated for release on PS5, PS4, Switch, and Steam in 2025. Pricing and a precise release date remain undisclosed.

A Look Back at the Mobile Gacha

In contrast to its upcoming console counterpart, Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator (the mobile title) fully embraces the gacha mechanic. While retaining core Atelier elements like synthesis and turn-based combat, it incorporates a potentially costly system for character strengthening and unlocking.

This gacha system utilizes a "spark" mechanic, awarding medals with each pull towards character or Memoria (illustration card) acquisition. Unlike a "pity" system, there's no guaranteed reward after a specific number of pulls. The mobile game, released in January 2024 on Steam, Android, and iOS, has received mixed reviews, with Steam users citing the gacha system's cost as a major drawback despite positive mobile app store ratings.
