Nicolas Cage delivered a powerful condemnation of artificial intelligence during his Saturn Awards acceptance speech, warning actors against allowing AI to influence their performances. He argued that AI's inability to authentically reflect the human condition leads to a creative "dead end," prioritizing financial gain over artistic integrity.
As reported by Variety, Cage, who won Best Actor for his role in Dream Scenario, stated that allowing AI to manipulate even a fraction of an actor's performance would ultimately compromise the "integrity, purity, and truth of art." He emphasized the crucial role of art in mirroring the human condition through a deeply personal and emotional creative process – a process he believes AI is incapable of replicating. He further warned that unchecked AI influence would result in art devoid of heart, losing its impact and becoming "mush," replacing genuine human expression with robotic imitation.
The filmmaking community is also divided on the issue. While renowned director Tim Burton expressed deep unease about AI-generated art, Zack Snyder, director of Justice League and Rebel Moon, advocates for embracing AI's potential rather than resisting its integration into filmmaking.
