In a statement, 4A Games clarified their position, congratulating Reburn on La Quimera while emphasizing their ongoing commitment to the Metro series. They stated unequivocally that they remain the developers behind the beloved Metro games and are actively working on the next installment in partnership with author Dmitry Glukhovsky.
Beyond the next Metro game, 4A Games also hinted at development on a completely new intellectual property (IP), although details remain under wraps. The studio highlighted its Ukrainian roots and diverse team, noting that the majority of its over 200 employees (approximately 150) are based in Kyiv, with additional offices in Sliema, Malta, and remote workers.
Regarding the separation from the team that formed Reburn, 4A Games explained that after Metro Exodus and its DLC, they collaborated with 4A Games Ukraine through outsourcing. Subsequently, 4A Games Limited was established in Kyiv, expanding their team by roughly 50 individuals. Concurrently, 4A Games Ukraine launched its independent path, culminating in the formation of Reburn and the announcement of La Quimera.
Since the launch of Metro Exodus in early 2019, anticipation for a new Metro title has grown. While updates have been scarce, releases like the Enhanced Edition have kept the franchise in the spotlight. With Embracer Group's backing, 4A Games initially hinted at a new Metro game in 2019, suggesting a release within the "202X" timeframe. Now, it appears that the next chapter in Dmitry Glukhovsky's post-apocalyptic world may be closer than fans think.
