Application Description

If you're a BMW owner looking to maintain your vehicle's performance, the bimmer-tool app is your go-to solution for managing fault codes and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) issues. This powerful tool allows you to read and clear fault codes, initiate DPF regeneration, and access real-time engine data, among other features. It's designed to enhance your BMW's performance and ensure it runs smoothly.

For BMW models before 2008, the app's functionality is somewhat limited, and using a K+DCan USB cable is recommended for the best results. Attempting to connect wirelessly with an ELM adapter on these older models might not work or may limit the available functions.

To use the bimmer-tool effectively, you'll need a reliable OBD adapter. Here are some recommended options:

With the bimmer-tool, you can:

  • Check the DPF regeneration status and get detailed information.
  • Initiate DPF regeneration to keep your filter clean.
  • Reset DPF adaptation values after a filter replacement.
  • Monitor exhaust fumes pressure and injector adjustments.
  • View actual and expected values for air mass, intake manifold pressure, and fuel pressure.
  • Log data to a CSV file for in-depth analysis.
  • Register a battery replacement without altering battery properties.
  • Reset lamps circuits blocked due to short-circuit errors.
  • Reset oil and brake service intervals.

The app supports various OBD adapters, including:

  • K+D-Can USB: The most reliable option, requiring a USB-OTG cable.
  • ENET cable/Wifi Adapter: Ideal for F & G series, needing a USB-C to Ethernet adapter.
  • ELM327 Bluetooth: May be slower than USB, works with genuine ELM327 or PIC18-based adapters.
  • ELM327 WiFi: May be less stable, requiring mobile data to be turned off.

To get started with the bimmer-tool:

  1. Connect the adapter to the OBD II socket.
  2. Turn the ignition on.
  3. Connect the adapter to your phone via USB, Bluetooth, or WiFi.
  4. Launch the app, select your BMW model and year under 'Car'.
  5. Go to 'Connection', choose the connection type, adapter type, and communication protocol.
  6. Tap the 'Connect' button.

Keep in mind that for models before 2008 and specific series like e46/e39/e83/e53, a K+DCan cable is necessary, and only the engine ECU is supported. Wireless ELM adapters may not work with these models.

If you encounter common issues like 'No response' errors in cars up to 2007 with Bluetooth/WiFi adapters, try selecting the ATWM option in advanced connection settings. If you can't connect despite correct settings, force stop all diagnostic apps or restart your phone and try again.

The app requires certain permissions to function correctly:

  • Storage: For USB adapter support.
  • Photos/Media/Files: To create CSV files.
  • Bluetooth: For Bluetooth adapter support.
  • Full network access: For WiFi adapter support.
  • Approximate location: Not used by the app, but theoretically possible via Bluetooth.
