Leaked GameStop SKUs Suggest Nintendo Switch 2 Will Support microSD Express Cards

Recent leaks suggest the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will feature a significant upgrade in storage technology: support for microSD Express cards. This revelation comes from several GameStop stock keeping units (SKUs) seemingly related to unannounced Switch 2 accessories. These SKUs, initially shared on Reddit, list "Switch 2 Exp Micro SD Card" options in 256GB and 512GB capacities, strongly hinting at microSD Express compatibility.

This represents a substantial improvement over the current Switch's UHS-I microSD card support. The difference in transfer speeds is dramatic: microSD Express offers speeds around 985 MB/s, compared to the UHS-I's approximate 95 MB/s—a speed increase exceeding 900%. This enhanced speed is due to microSD Express utilizing the NVMe protocol, the same technology powering high-performance modern SSDs.

The capacity difference is equally impressive. While UHS-I cards max out at 2TB, microSD Express cards can reach capacities of up to 128TB—a 6300% increase. The leaked GameStop SKUs price the 256GB Switch 2 microSD Express cards at $49.99 and the 512GB option at $84.99.

Further leaked SKUs include a standard Switch 2 carrying case ($19.99) and two "deluxe" cases ($29.99). While these are likely third-party accessories, their appearance alongside the microSD Express card SKUs strengthens the credibility of the leak.

With Nintendo having twice stated an official Switch 2 reveal before the end of its fiscal year (March 31, 2025), the influx of leaks surrounding the console's hardware continues to build anticipation. The potential for significantly faster transfer speeds and vastly increased storage capacity is a major selling point for the upcoming console.
