In Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, players exploring The Zone will stumble upon various NPCs, triggering quests ranging from small tasks to substantial side missions like "For Science!". This mission involves Skif meeting Yaryk Mongoose, who needs help activating a second measuring device atop a silo. While short, completing it rewards players with a Malachite pass, granting access to the STC Malachite facilities.
Initiating the "For Science!" Side Quest
To begin "For Science!", locate Yaryk Mongoose in the Central Elevator area of the Chemical Plant. Approaching the location will trigger a radio call between Mongoose and Skif.
Upon entering Central Elevator, go left, past the conveyor belts, and ascend the rusted stairs. Mongoose is on the first floor; vault the railing to reach him. He'll explain the need to activate a second device on a nearby silo, initiating the quest.
Reaching the Silo's Summit
Exit the room and climb to the building's roof. Eliminate any rodents encountered. A room with broken windows provides access to an external walkway and ladder leading to the silos.
Jump to the silo walkway, equipping your bolt gun to counter electro anomalies. Proceed left to locate and activate the second measuring device. Activating it will attract a Bloodsucker horde.
The Aftermath and Confrontation
Return to Mongoose. He'll explain the experiment's unforeseen consequences. Players can choose to kill Mongoose for endangering Skif or accept the reward peacefully. Neither choice has significant repercussions; killing him allows looting the Malachite pass from his corpse.
However, choosing the non-hostile option is advised, earning both the Malachite pass and some coupons. The pass provides access to the STC Malachite base, unless already obtained through main missions.
