TCG Shortage Explained by Pokemon Company

The Pokémon Company addresses ongoing shortages of its highly anticipated Scarlet and Violet—Prismatic Evolutions expansion, assuring fans that reprints are underway. This marks the first official acknowledgment of the widespread supply issues impacting global availability.

Initially announced in November 2024 with pre-orders opening shortly after, Prismatic Evolutions was slated for an international release on January 17, 2025. However, significant shortages quickly emerged, prompting numerous complaints from fans on social media.

In response to the outcry, The Pokémon Company issued a statement confirming the production of reprints, stating they are being printed at maximum capacity and will soon reach licensed distributors. While the statement cites "high demand" as the cause of the shortages, it avoids directly addressing speculation regarding scalping.

Further bolstering supply, The Pokémon Company announced additional Prismatic Evolutions products launching in the coming months. This includes:

  • A Mini Tin and Surprise Box (February 7, 2025)
  • A Booster Bundle (March 7, 2025)
  • An Accessory Pouch Special Collection (April 25, 2025)
  • A Super-Premium Collection (May 16, 2025)
  • A Premium Figure Collection (September 26, 2025)

Players can also acquire Prismatic Evolutions cards through the Pokémon TCG Live mobile game's Battle Pass, starting January 16, 2025. The Pokémon Company expressed gratitude for fans' patience and reiterated their commitment to resolving the supply issues as swiftly as possible.
