DC's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Commences Filming: First Look at Milly Alcock
Production has officially begun on DC's highly anticipated film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, starring Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as Kara Zor-El. DC Studios head James Gunn shared a first look image on Bluesky, showcasing Alcock in her director's chair.
Gunn expressed his excitement on Bluesky, confirming Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) as director, a fact previously reported last April. The film is a significant adaptation of Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's acclaimed graphic novel.
The storyline, a standalone adventure, centers on Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl seeking revenge for her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. She enlists Supergirl's aid in her quest. The graphic novel, nominated for a 2022 Eisner Award for "Best Limited Series," is highly recommended.
Casting announcements include Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem and Eve Ridley as Ruthye. Further additions to the ensemble cast are David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, reprising his role as Lobo within the rebooted DC universe.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow marks the second film in the newly established DC Universe, following James Gunn's Superman movie slated for release this summer. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II (whose connection to the Gunn-led universe remains uncertain) and a rumored Clayface film from Mike Flanagan.
