Skyblivion, a fan-made recreation of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion within The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's engine, is slated for a 2025 release.

A recent developer update stream confirmed the team's commitment to this ambitious goal. Developed by volunteer modders, Skyblivion represents a monumental undertaking, requiring years of dedication. Despite the scale, the team remains confident in a 2025 launch, stating their hope to "finish the final steps in completing our dream, maybe even beating our own estimation."

The project goes beyond a simple one-to-one remake. Developers are significantly enhancing various aspects of the original Oblivion, including ensuring "unique items are actually unique" and bolstering the challenge of existing bosses, specifically mentioning Mannimarco. The stream showcased the "A Brush with Death" quest, highlighting the impressive visual fidelity.

Adding another layer of intrigue is the persistent rumor of an official Oblivion remake. Details of a potential official remake surfaced earlier this year, suggesting alterations to combat mechanics and more. Microsoft has not commented on these rumors. Furthermore, an Oblivion remaster was referenced in documents from the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial. While some projects mentioned in these documents have been released, the Oblivion remaster remains unconfirmed.

The existence of a large-scale fan project like Skyblivion might impact Microsoft and Bethesda's plans for an official release. Bethesda games have a rich history of community modding, extending from older titles to the recent Starfield. The hope is that Skyblivion avoids the fate of Fallout London, which encountered difficulties shortly before its planned launch.
