HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 will resurrect cut content from the original video game, The Last of Us Part II, according to showrunner and Naughty Dog studio head, Neil Druckmann. Druckmann revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the show will feature "pretty brutal" scenes, including elements from the game's "Lost Levels," partially restored in the PlayStation 5 remaster. These levels, such as Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers, offer a range of tones, from the relatively calmer party scene and boar hunt to the intense horror of Ellie's encounter with monsters in the Seattle sewers.

The inclusion of this cut content promises intense viewing. Druckmann hinted at the appearance of a "pretty prominent" character previously only mentioned in the game, echoing the Season 1 inclusion of Frank.
Season 2 introduces a significant cast expansion, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel, among others. However, Catherine O'Hara's role remains shrouded in mystery.
The premiere of Season 2, slated for April, will likely shed light on some of these enigmas. However, HBO intends to adapt The Last of Us Part II over multiple seasons, unlike Season 1's complete adaptation of the first game. Showrunner Craig Mazin explained that Part II's expansive narrative necessitates this approach, and Season 2, while ending on a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes, leaves the door open for a potential Season 3.
