Nintendo Switch 2: Joy-Con Mouse Rumors Gain Traction

Authore: MadisonUpdate:Feb 21,2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal this morning lends significant credence to earlier rumors about Joy-Con mouse functionality.

PlayThe reveal trailer showcased detached Joy-Cons placed attachment-side down on a surface, connecting to flat-bottomed connectors. These then moved across the surface, mimicking mouse cursor movement. A slider pad is visible on one connector, further supporting this theory.

Pre-reveal speculation centered on a sensor within the Joy-Cons, similar to those in computer mice. While Nintendo hasn't confirmed this feature, its potential applications are numerous. Fans envision uses in traditionally mouse-and-keyboard-centric games like Civilization, while others anticipate innovative uses within Nintendo's first-party titles.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding mouse support and a new Joy-Con button, several details about the Switch 2 are known. Officially named the Nintendo Switch 2, it's slated for a 2025 release, and a new Mario Kart is in development. Backward compatibility with the original Switch is confirmed, with further software announcements promised in an April Direct. Stay tuned for comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 coverage.
