Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.1 Leak Hints at Free 4-Star Character Selector
A recent leak suggests Honkai: Star Rail's Version 3.1 update will include a free 4-star character selector, potentially as part of a limited-time event. This selector would allow players to choose one of four characters: Qingque, Pela, Serval, or Asta.
This news comes as Honkai: Star Rail has shifted towards releasing a higher number of 5-star characters, leaving 4-star additions relatively scarce. While some 4-star units remain valuable in specific team compositions, many require significant Eidolon investment to reach their full potential. Past updates offered free character selectors to help players acquire these Eidolons, and this leak indicates a similar event is planned for Version 3.1.
The leaked selector features characters released during the game's initial 1.0 cycle, with Asta even being an early-game acquisition. This fuels speculation that future 4-star character releases might be infrequent, given rumors suggesting upcoming characters are all 5-star.
The four selectable characters – Qingque (Quantum, Erudition), Pela (Ice, Nihility), Serval (Lightning, Erudition), and Asta (Fire, Harmony) – are all available for purchase in the in-game store. While Pela and Asta remain viable support units, Qingque and Serval have been largely outclassed by newer DPS characters.
The disparity between 5-star and 4-star character numbers is significant, with nearly 40 5-star characters currently available compared to 23 4-stars. The upcoming Amphoreus update is expected to introduce eight more 5-star characters, further widening this gap. A rumored crossover with Fate/Stay Night is also anticipated to add two more 5-star characters.
The 2.0 cycle only saw four new 4-star characters (including March 7th's alternate form). If the leak proves accurate, future 4-star selectors might lack sufficient new unit options. Despite this, Version 3.0's highly anticipated additions of The Herta and Aglaea, along with recently released redeem codes for Stellar Jades and materials, offer players much to look forward to.
