Dragon Quest XII remains under development, with updates to be shared gradually, according to series creator Yuji Horii.
During a recent livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmed that the Square Enix development team is diligently working on Dragon Quest XII. This marks the first update since May 2024, following the passing of key figures Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama, and the departure of lead producer Yu Miyake.
Previous restructuring at Square Enix and a lack of recent news had sparked fan concerns about the game's potential cancellation. However, Horii's statement allays these fears, assuring fans that development continues.
Revealed during the series' 35th anniversary, Dragon Quest XII will be the first main series installment since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The announcement follows Square Enix's report that the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake surpassed sales projections, reaching 2 million units sold.
