Crossplay in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: A Double-Edged Sword and How to Disable It
Cross-platform play has revolutionized online gaming, uniting the Call of Duty community. However, crossplay isn't without its drawbacks. This guide explains how to disable crossplay in Black Ops 6 and the implications of doing so.
The Crossplay Dilemma
Disabling crossplay in Black Ops 6 presents a trade-off. Many players disable it to level the playing field, believing it creates a fairer experience. Console players, in particular, often want to avoid competing against PC players due to the inherent advantages of mouse and keyboard controls – superior aiming precision – and the potential for PC players to utilize mods or cheats. While Call of Duty's Ricochet Anti-Cheat system combats cheating, reports of cheaters persist in Black Ops 6 and Warzone. Disabling crossplay theoretically reduces the likelihood of encountering cheaters.
The significant drawback? Disabling crossplay drastically shrinks the player pool, leading to longer matchmaking times and potentially poorer connection quality in matches.
How to Disable Crossplay
Disabling crossplay is relatively simple. Access the Account & Network settings. The Crossplay and Crossplay Communications toggles are located near the top. Simply switch the Crossplay setting from "On" to "Off" using the X or A button (depending on your console). This can be done from within Black Ops 6, Warzone, or the main Call of Duty menu. Note that the image below shows the Crossplay setting added to Quick Settings for easier access.
Keep in mind that the setting might be temporarily greyed out and unavailable in certain game modes, such as Ranked Play, where crossplay may be mandatory. However, Season 2 of Black Ops 6 is expected to offer more player choice regarding crossplay in competitive modes.
