New Details on Blades of Fire from Early Players

Become Aran de Lir, a blacksmith and warrior whose life takes a tragic turn, igniting a quest for vengeance. Discover a magical hammer, granting access to the Forge of the Gods, where you'll craft unique weapons to challenge Queen Nereia's formidable army. Prepare for a 60-70 hour adventure.

Journey through a breathtaking yet brutal fantasy world teeming with magical creatures—enchanted forests and vibrant fields are home to trolls and elementals. The game's distinctive visual style, reminiscent of Blizzard's work, features exaggerated proportions: massive limbs, imposing buildings, and a monumental environment that creates a sense of epic scale. Encounter unique enemy designs, including stocky soldiers reminiscent of Gears of War's Locust.

Blades of Fire boasts an unparalleled weapon modification system and innovative combat mechanics, setting it apart from typical action games:

Forge your arsenal by selecting a basic weapon template and customizing its size, shape, material, and other properties. Conclude the creation process with a mini-game, precisely controlling the strength, length, and angle of your strikes to determine the weapon's quality and durability. Conveniently recreate previously forged weapons instantly.

Develop a strong emotional bond with your creations; the developers encourage using the same weapons throughout your journey. Death means leaving your weapon behind, retrievable by returning to the location. Carry up to four weapon types, switching seamlessly in combat. Each weapon offers unique stances for slashing or thrusting attacks.

Forget scavenging—you craft every weapon. Seven weapon types are available, from halberds to dual axes. Master directional combat: strike at the face, torso, left, or right, exploiting enemy weaknesses. Some bosses, like trolls, possess additional health bars vulnerable only after severing limbs—cut off a club-wielding arm or destroy a boss's face for a temporary blinding effect. Stamina, crucial for attacks and dodges, requires strategic blocking to regenerate.

Reviewers acknowledge potential shortcomings, including limited content, uneven difficulty, and a sometimes-unintuitive forging system. However, the unique setting and combat system effectively compensate for these flaws.

Blades of Fire launches May 22, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Epic Games Store).
