How To Defeat Zhang Jiao In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Conquering Zhang Jiao, the leader of the Yellow Turbans, is a significant early hurdle in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*. This guide outlines strategies for victory.

Confronting Zhang Jiao: Phase 1

The initial encounter is a one-on-one duel in a spacious wasteland. Zhang Jiao employs sorcery, hurling stones across the arena. His attacks vary based on your distance. Up close, he summons four stones, requiring swift evasion. From afar, he unleashes eight stones in pairs, easily dodged by circling him. Maintain a safe distance when he summons many stones to avoid heavy damage.

While primarily a ranged attacker, Zhang Jiao possesses close-range combos (parryable) and an area-of-effect (AOE) pushback attack. A glowing white aura signals his impending AOE; retreat to avoid damage. His red-aura attacks are unblockable and include summoning numerous rocks and clones. The best strategy is to maintain distance and wait for these attacks to conclude before resuming your assault. A sword is recommended for optimal damage output.

Resource management is crucial. Depending on skill upgrades, you likely have limited healing opportunities (around four). Meat buns are available near the arena entrance; utilize them for healing during periods of respite.

Confronting Zhang Jiao: Phase 2

Activating Musou Rage triggers Phase 2, introducing Yellow Turban reinforcements alongside your own army. This provides opportunities for healing by retrieving meat buns. Zhang Jiao introduces tornadoes, adding another layer of challenge to navigating the battlefield while eliminating his troops.

Zhang Jiao will attempt a Grand Tactic, demanding the defeat of 300 soldiers within a short timeframe. Failure results in a devastating attack. Simultaneously, he unleashes lightning strikes; observe the shrinking rings on the ground and evade when they flash. Musou Mode is highly effective for quickly eliminating soldiers, though basic Musou mode might be more practical given the time constraints. Successfully countering his Grand Tactic twice brings Zhang Jiao back to the battlefield with Phase 1 tactics. With your army's support, eliminating his remaining health should be straightforward.

Master these strategies to defeat Zhang Jiao and complete Chapter 1 of *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*. *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* is available now on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
